I started watching Deadwood based on these posts. It is so good. It seems like the theme of the show is human nature. Al, Cy, and Seth understand human nature. Al factors in what the hoopleheads will do. Al can read situations based on the reactions of others. The characters that understand human nature are the strongest. Great point that Al starts out so brutal and eases into the anti-hero. Among so many great scenes in season 2, I felt the most powerful was when Al paid his first visit to Alma Garrett's room and informed her about the Pinkertons. That was a great scene. Alma to Al: "As much as your can please minimize your obscenities." What a dignified response to the man that killed her husband and sought her destruction.

Loved the series, but while watching it I could not get the phrase "fucking cocksucker" out of my head. It was hilarious how that phrase was woven into the script for almost every act.
